A dangerous blizzard has been dumping substantial snow across the nation'smidsection since Thursday. Measuring how much snow has fallen is extremelydifficult due to strong winds severely blowing and drifting the snowaround.The blizzard will continue to deliver more snow to the northern Plains andupper Great Lakes through Saturday. Tonight into Saturday, up to a foot of newsnow will add to what has fallen through the daylight hours of Christmas overeastern South Dakota and southeastern North Dakota. As has been the case,residents will have trouble measuring the wind-whipped snow.

Finding out how much snow has fallen is likely the last thing residents areworried about. The blizzard has paralyzed the region. Numerous roads, includinglengthy stretches of interstates, have been closed. Prolonged whiteoutsgenerated by the blizzard has made travel extremely dangerous.
