Heavy rain pelted parts of southeastern India last week as a weak area of lowpressure drifted westward. This area of low pressure has strengthened off thewest coast of India and is now Tropical Storm 04A.04A has produced heavy rain over western parts of India Monday as the tropicalstorm developed. This storm will drift northward over the next few days, and itwill continue to produce very heavy rainfall to the west coast of India.

Daily rainfall amounts of 5-10 inches will occur with the heaviest rain alongthe west coast of India. This includes the city of Mumbai, India's largest cityas well as the commercial and entertainment capital of the country. Widespreadflooding will result across western India, including throughout the city ofMumbai.

Along with the heavy rain, gusty winds will also impact the west coast ofIndia. Winds in excess of 60 mph will be possible in many areas, includingthroughout Mumbai, as the center of 04A passes very close to the city.
