Extreme heat late last week and again on Monday spanned the Indiansubcontinent from southern Pakistan through northern and central India towestern Bangladesh. Temperatures soared well above 100 degrees. In Pakistan onSunday, 117 degrees was reached at Nawabshah. In India on Monday, both Kota andNagpur registered 113 degrees. And New Delhi topped out at 107 degrees, or 10degrees higher than usual.Through the week, the heat will lessen somewhat in the west. Not so foreastern and northern India, where temperatures will soar daily to 105 to 110degrees. And hot spots could reach 115 degrees.
Severe heat befits the month of April throughout most, if not all, of theIndian subcontinent, so widespread 100-degree heat would be the norm. However,widespread readings to 110 degrees will continue to prove highly stressful formillions of residents, mostly of eastern and northeastern India, during thisweek.
