One man was fatally shot in Minneapolis' Cedar-Riverside neighborhood late Thursday, and two other people were injured in what police describe as a drive-by shooting.

The incident took place about 11:25 p.m. in the 500 block of 15th Avenue S., said police spokesman Garrett Parten.

The victims were sitting in a parked car when another vehicle pulled up and somebody in that vehicle started shooting. The suspects then sped off, Parten said.

Officers from Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota police departments arrived to find a man with multiple gunshot wounds. The officers rendered aid until the man died at the scene, Parten said.

A woman who had been in the car in which shots were fired was located on nearby S. 4th Street, while a man who also had been in the car was found on nearby Cedar Avenue. Both had gunshot wounds and were taken to a hospital. Their injuries were not life threatening, Parten said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooter and the victims are acquainted with each other, Parten said.

No arrests have been made. This is Minneapolis' third homicide of 2022.
