MacLennan, Mary Ann Tarbell Of Edina, 87, died on September 17, 2020 after a brief illness. She is preceded in death by her husband Everett, sister Barbara McBride, and brother John Tarbell, and is survived by her four children: Dave (Kathleen) of Edina, Laura (Tim Naylor) of Minneapolis, Beth of Bloomington, and Doug (Monica Malhotra) of Dubai. Also, by seven adoring grandchildren: Jack, Maggie, and Catherine MacLennan; William and Everett Naylor; Anaya and Arya MacLennan; two sisters, Joyce Morgan of Nashville and Merideth DeLamarter of Concord, Massachusetts; and brother-in-law John MacLennan of Sanibel, Florida. Mary Ann was born in Boston, grew up in Brockton, Massachusetts, and graduated from Smith College in 1955. She met Everett her first year in college; their first date was at a Celtics game. They married a year after graduating and celebrated 54 years together before Ev died in 2010. They moved seven times, including to Port Townsend, Washington; Buffalo; Chicago; and Toledo before settling in Minneapolis in 1968. Through Ev's 42 years at Cargill they made lifelong friends and had wonderful adventures. Mary Ann was a loyal fan of the Vikings and Twins but also maintained her love of Boston teams. She played tennis and golfed. She was a news junkie, always up-to-date on current events. She was funny and sharp, loving nothing more than to laugh and share a story, many of which will live on with us. She was smart and wise, always learning and open to new ideas and changing times. She loved holidays with her family and cooking delicious meals for them in her beautiful house. She was a New England beauty, sometimes mistaken for someone famous. She spent her life caring for others. One friend described her as "the real deal." She was a great person, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She lived a full and interesting life filled with laughter, love, friendship, and travel. She was one of the most positive, loyal, and loving people you'd ever meet. Private services will be arranged at a future date. Memorial gifts may be sent to Smith College, where the family plans to set up a memorial fund (Smith College Gift Accounting, Stoddard Annex, 23 Elm Street, Northampton, MA 01063); or to Colonial Church of Edina, 6200 Colonial Way, Minneapolis 55436.
