The region from Arizona and New Mexico into southern Colorado has beengetting hit by heavy thunderstorms the past couple of days, and more will occurSaturday. These storms are being fueled by tropical moisture from the south andplenty of daytime heating. What makes these storms so dangerous is that runoffwater rushes through canyons and ravines often to places a good distance fromwhere the heavy rain happened. The result can be a very bad day for thosepeople caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.A word to the wise: If you are driving or camping in the Southwest and noticebig thunderstorms around, don't linger in the low spots. Flooding in this partof the country happens quick. That's why it's called flash flooding.
