A suspect with a long criminal history was charged Friday with fatally shooting a man outside a St. Paul bar, authorities said Friday.

Andrew V. Glover, 36, was charged with second-degree murder and second-degree attempted murder in connection with the killing of Raymond R. Hobbs, 20, of St. Paul, in the 1000 block of Old Hudson Road near Interstate 94 around 8 p.m. Tuesday and the wounding of a 26-year-old woman who survived after being shot in the liver and rib cage.

Glover was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Jenks Avenue, where he lives, and roughly 3 miles from the St. Paul Saloon where Hobbs was shot, police said.

Bail was set at $1.5 million for Glover, who remains jailed ahead of a court appearance Monday. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

After his arrest, Glover told investigators that "on his baby's life, he didn't do anything" that led to Hobbs' death, according to the criminal complaint. He added that he drove off alone after the shots were fired.

Glover stopped talking when told that police believe Hobbs was "lured outside and executed," according to the charges.

The only reference in the complaint to a possible motive for the shooting was that "rumor has it that [Hobbs] was shot because he stole a gun."

Court records show that the suspect has been convicted of at least 14 counts since soon after he became an adult.

They include five convictions for drug offenses, three for illegal weapons possession, two for thefts and two for possessing drug paraphernalia, as well as one each for drunken driving, assault and domestic assault.
