Drenching rain and storms farther south are expanding to the Eastern Seaboardtoday into tonight. A thorough soaking is in store for communities from theeastern Gulf Coast through Maine, and flash, river and ice jam flooding are allpossibilities. The heaviest rain, 2-3 inches, later today and tonight will pour down on areasfrom southern Georgia and the Appalachians into New England.

This is enough to cause flooding in poor drainage areas and ice jam floodingwhere the rain falls more steadily to the north. Flash, stream and riverflooding will likely target the Southeast, where storms could dump the rain ina matter of hours. Rivers are already in minor flood stages in the Deep Southand the eastern Carolinas, so it will not take much more run-off for biggerproblems.
