Do not let the snow and ice currently moving through the Northeast fool youinto thinking that the blizzard we have been warning about is not going tomaterialize. A blizzard still looms for northern New England and the St.Lawrence Valley. The weekend is when the blizzard will unleash its fury.

The above graphic displays how much snow will pile up across northern NewEngland and the St. Lawrence Valley through this long holiday weekend. Includedon this map is the snow that today's storm will deliver to Maine andsurrounding places on New Year's Day, as well as what the blizzard will produceover the weekend.

It will be quite difficult to measure the snow this weekend. Strong winds willseverely blow and drift the snow around through Sunday.

Also on this map is the lake-effect snow that will stream downwind of theeastern Great Lakes. Persistent bands of snow and heavier squalls will total upto a foot; however, locally higher amounts cannot be ruled out. Additionalaccumulating lake-effect snow will fall during the first part of next week.
