So where's the big January Thaw? I guess it's still on sabbatical. From theGreat Plains to the Eastern Seaboard, most of next week will be cold. Plusthere will be another storm or two to deal with along the way. Perhaps nextweekend a moderating trend will occur across the central and southern Plains, but the Midwest and Northeast are likely to stay cold. The first storm is one of those clipper systems that come out of westernCanada. It will bring a small amount of snow to areas mainly north ofInterstate 80 Saturday and Saturday night.

Early next week, another disturbance will impact the Eastern part of thecountry. This one won't ever become a tightly wound storm like the one that hitearlier this week; however, it will produce a wintry mix of snow, sleet andfreezing rain from West Virginia northward Monday night and Tuesday. Theprecipitation pattern will be somewhat splotchy and not nearly as organized aswhat is shown on the graphic above. The storm will create poor travelconditions, but odds are strongly against another heavy snowfall.

Yet another snow system (strength unknown) could play a role in the weatheracross the Northeast late next Thursday and Friday.
