Restrictions on capacity limits, social distancing and mask-wearing outdoors no matter the crowd could be lifted by the time the PGA Tour's 3M Open begins play in Blaine on July 22.

Tournament director Mike Welch called Gov. Tim Walz's decision announced Thursday "all great things" for an event that had planned on limiting spectators to 10,000 a day. Now, Welch is hopeful more fans and corporate partners will attend in 2021 than they did in pre-COVID 2019.

"This allows us to plan a bit more freely," Welch said. "Now we're thinking of normal capacities and shared hospitality areas in our [corporate] tents."
