Heat halted Celtics' streak at 16

Preview: The Timberwolves opened a four-game homestand Wednesday by holding on for a 124-118 victory over Orlando, improving to 6-2 at Target Center. They did it by building a 26-point lead after three quarters, then hitting enough free throws down the stretch to hold off the Magic. Four players scored 20 or more points for the Wolves, matching a franchise record. The Heat is coming off an impressive 104-96 victory over Boston, ending the Celtics' winning streak at 16. The Wolves have won their past two games against the Heat, including a 125-122 overtime victory at Miami on Oct. 30.

Players to watch: Wolves G/F Jimmy Butler matched his season high with 26 points Wednesday. He has scored 26 in two of the past three games, a stretch in which he has shot 26-for-49. Jeff Teague had his sixth double-double of the season. F Taj Gibson had a season-high 24 points and was a team-best plus-21. For Miami, guards Goran Dragic (27 points, five rebounds, four assists) and Dion Waiters (26 points, six assists) led the way vs. Boston.

Numbers: Against the Magic, the Wolves outscored Orlando by 23 in the third quarter but were outscored by 20 in the fourth. It's only the third time in franchise history the Wolves have had a plus-20 and a minus-20 quarter in the same game. The Wolves' 36 points and 45 attempts from the free-throw line Wednesday were both season highs.

Injuries: Wolves C Justin Patton (foot) is out. Heat G Rodney McGruder (leg) and F Okaro White (foot) are out.
