Cole McCarver scored on a power play 3 minutes, 23 seconds into the third period for the winning goal as Class 1A, No. 4 Mahtomedi beat host Hastings 4-3 on Saturday in boys' hockey.

McCarver's goal put the Zephyrs ahead 4-1. Jayce Schauer and Jonathon Peine scored in a 1:49 span midway through the third as the Raiders got within a goal.

The Zephyrs took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on goals by Nikolai Dulak and Michael Miller in the last six minutes of the first period.

Dylan L'Allier gave Mahtomedi a 3-1 lead with just under two minutes left in the second period.

Maple Grove 3, Blaine 2 (OT): Kyle Kukkonen scored the overtime goal for the Crimson, ending the Bengals' comeback attempt. Maple Grove recorded a 2-0 lead on goals from Sam Jacobs and Cal Thomas. Blaine answered back as Cole Hansen and Bryce Brodzinski scored. Jack Weineke made 35 saves for the Crimson.

St. Paul Academy 7, Breck 3: The Spartans scored four goals in a five-minute span in the third period to break the game open and pull away from the visiting Mustangs. Nolan Gifford and Adam Zukowski each scored twice for St. Paul Academy.

Girls' hockey

Hill-Murray 1, South St. Paul 1 (OT): Samantha Lenarz scored for the Class 1A, No. 1 Packers with 4:04 left in the third period to tie the score against the visiting Class 2A, No. 10 Pioneers. Nina Steigauf got the Pioneers on the board with 1:03 left in the second period. Delaney Norman stopped 29 shots for the Packers and Rachel Kennedy 19 for the Pioneers.

Holy Angels 2, Minneapolis 1: Madysen Palmer scored the game-winning goal on a power play with under five minutes to play. She also had a first period goal. Minneapolis tied the score early in the third period on Lizzie Mewes' power-play goal.

Blake 9, Minnehaha United 0: Adelaide Burton had a hat trick and an assist to lead the Class 2A, No. 2 Bears past visiting Minnehaha United. Lily Delianedis had a goal and four assists, Izzy Daniel three assists, Bailey Abraham and Julia Blum a goal and an assist each for the Bears.

Boys' basketball

Chaska 59, Shakopee 56: The visiting Hawks built a nine-point lead and held off the Class 4A, No. 9 Sabers in the second half for the victory. Cole Nicholson led the Hawks with 16 points. Will Cordes led the Sabers with 20 points and Charles Katona had 14.

Hermantown 78, Chisago Lakes 73: The Hawks overcame a two-point halftime deficit to defeat the host Wildcats. Connor Bich led the Hawks with 29 points, Peter Soumis had 16, Alex Bjorlin 13 and Dalton Everett 11. Will Tinjum led the Wildcats with 22 points.

Girls' basketball

DeLaSalle 67, Grand Rapids 59: Nurjei Weems had 22 points and Mya Williams 17 to lead the Islanders over the host Thunderhawks. Hannah DeMars scored 18 for Grand Rapids.

Mayer Lutheran 44, Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted 39: Brooke Paulsrud scored 19 points to lead the Crusaders past the visiting Lakers. CJ Decker led the Lakers with 15 points.

Simley 59, St. Croix Lutheran 45: Sydney Stensgard's 20 points led the Class 3A, No. 8 Spartans to a road victory.

Football

South All-Stars 33, North All-Stars 12: Mankato West linebacker Clay Herding returned an interception 16 yards for a touchdown on the third play of the game to spark the South past the North in the Minnesota High School All-Star Game at U.S. Bank Stadium. Cretin-Derham Hall receiver Peter Udoibok caught passes of 93 and 35 yards for the South, which eventually built a 33-0 lead early in the third quarter. Herding and Udoibok were named the MVPs for the South on defense and offense, respectively. Minneapolis North defensive back Omar Brown and Breck quarterback David Roddy were named the North MVPs.
