Laseski (Monahan), Mary Kathryn Passed away peacefully the morning of January 11, 2020, at age 86. Mary Kate, also known as Mary Sunshine, was an eternally beautiful, elegant and sophisticated wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and one always used the word ladylike with her - she was a true lady.

Mary Kate, of Edina, MN, is survived by loving husband, Wesley, of 53 years; daughters Elizabeth (Mike Laukka) of Edina; Maggie Bebler, of Minneapolis, MN; Sara Carrillo, of Minneapolis, MN; and son, John Laseski, of Denver, CO; as well as six grandchildren, Ben & Elliott Laukka; John, Mary, & Tommy Bebler, & Brycen Laseski; as well as niece and nephew, Chris & Angela Blue, of Houston. Mary is predeceased by parents, Helen & John Monahan; sister, Sara; and nephew, Shawn, of Fort Wayne, IN; and son in law, Brian Bebler of Minneapolis, MN.

She grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, then went to study nursing. After leaving nursing, she joined IBM in Kansas City, which led to a wonderful whirlwind social life. During this time, she met a spirited bachelor. This particular young man, Wesley J. Laseski, originally from MN; whisked her away in quick pursuit; within five months - engagement, marriage, and adventuresome three week honeymoon in Europe where it all started with Wall Street ticker symbols and many other antics foreshadowing the rest of their inimitable married lives.

They relocated to MN in 1971, first Edina, then Eden Prairie. In addition to raising her children, Mary Kate was a dedicated 45 year member of the Peanuts Association, supporting MN Children's Hospital. She was also a long-time member of League of Catholic Women, and regular writer for the Pax Christi Catholic Church newsletter.

Mary Kate's interests included entertaining, gardening, cooking, travel, skiing, golfing, swimming, poetry, literature, antiques, and fashion. She also had a love of animals, and over the years took in a myriad of dogs, cats, and birds into their hobby farm in Eden Prairie, tending all with great care. For kids, the Laseski home was the place to be - she gracefully hosted a revolving door of live-in guests and visitors. She loved interior design and architecture and took special interest in uncovering artifacts at estate sales and in world travels.

Mary Kate had the most wonderful sense of humor, loved telling stories, jokes, and always attributed this to her Irish heritage. A favorite place of hers to travel was Ireland and an often told story was of a little red headed, freckled Irish boy who wore a shirt that said "I am the boss and I don't take s*** from anybody"... which summed up her appreciation for the salty and ironic.

She will be so missed by her family and friends. She was the kindest and gentlest of souls. The family thanks the staff of Friendship Village, who have been amazing throughout her almost five years as a resident; as well as Park Nicollet Hospice for their compassionate care.

The family appreciates memorials in honor of Mary Kate to MN Children's Foundation (giving.childrensmn.org) or Alzheimer's Foundation (alz.org). A private family Mass has been held. Washburn-Mcreavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
