Amateur Ben Greve of Minneapolis GC shot a second-round 64 Sunday to win the Minnesota State Open golf title at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids.

Greve, who played on the Gophers' 2002 NCAA championship team and is the husband of Lynx star Lindsay Whalen, shot an opening 2-under 70 Friday, leaving him tied for 14th. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes after play was suspended Saturday because of severe weather and unplayable conditions. Play resumed Sunday morning for players who had begun their second round Saturday, before the rest of the field began its entire second round.

"[Saturday] I was making good putts, having good chances," Greve said. "I was kind of disappointed that we stopped because I was playing so well."

In what he called his "best shot" of the tournament, Greve stuck his hybrid to within 3 feet on the par-3, 17th and made his putt for birdie. He did nearly the same with his iron shot on the 18th, sticking it to within 5 feet. He finished at 10-under-par 134.

Defending champion Andrew McCain struggled in the second round, closing with a 2-over 74 and tying for fourth at 139. He ws trying to become the Open's first repeat champion since John Harris in 1994-95. The runner-up was professional Sam Matthew at 136, a stroke ahead of Erik Van Rooyen.
