On the road again after OT victory

Preview: The Gophers (14-6, 3-4 Big Ten) stopped a three-game losing streak Monday with a 95-84 overtime victory at Penn State. It was the first victory in State College, Pa., for Richard Pitino since 2013-14. Now Pitino's team will try to carry that boost of confidence over during the program's first three-game stretch away from home since 2002. Minnesota's 89-75 victory last year at Maryland was the team's first in College Park, Md., ever. The Terrapins (14-6, 3-4) were nationally ranked last season, but they've been playing without two key players, much like the Gophers. Maryland lost forwards Justin Jackson (shoulder) and Ivan Bender (knee) to season-ending injuries. Three of the past four Terrapins games have been on the road, including losses to Michigan State (91-61), Ohio State (91-69) and Michigan (68-67).

Players to watch: Nate Mason's team-leading 25-point performance Monday against Penn State included 14 points in the first half, with four three-pointers. The senior point guard became the eighth player in Gophers history to reach 1,500 points in his career. … Maryland sophomore guard Anthony Cowan ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring (league games only) at 20.3 points per game, while making 19 three-pointers by shooting 48.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Numbers: Gophers guard Jamir Harris' 16 points Monday were the most for a U freshman this season. It was his second double-figure scoring game this season and first during Big Ten play.
