Tre Jones made two free throws with 13.2 seconds remaining to lift host Apple Valley, ranked No. 4 in the Class 4A boys' basketball poll, to a 65-64 victory over St. Thomas Academy.

The Cadets did not get a shot off in their final possession.

Jones finished with 27 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. George Stewart scored 25 points to lead the Cadets, ranked No. 3 in Class 3A.

In other boys' basketball action:

Cretin-Derham Hall 71, East Ridge 57: The host Raiders, ranked No. 3 in Class 4A, took control in the second half to outlast the Raptors, ranked No. 8. The Raptors, who trailed by eight points at halftime, opened the second half with a 10-2 run to tie the score at 33-all before the Raiders responded with a 17-2 run to take control. Daniel Oturu scored 29 points to lead the Raiders. Courtney Brown scored 20 to lead the Raptors.

Hopkins 81, Edina 59: Junior forward Zeke Nnaji scored 16 points in the second half to help the host Royals (4-1), ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, pull away from the top-ranked and previously unbeaten Hornets (3-1).

Park Center 84, Wayzata 52: Jarius Cook, a senior who has signed with North Dakota State, scored 20 of his game-high 22 points in the first half to lead the Pirates (3-1), ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, past the host Trojans. Jacob Beeninga scored 15 to lead the Trojans (2-2), ranked No. 9.

Columbia Heights 71, Mahtomedi 63: Deundra Roberson scored 22 points to lead the balanced Hylanders, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A, past the Zephyrs. Four other players also scored in double figures for the Hylanders (4-0).

Simley 76, St. Paul Como Park 65: Senior guard Jake Binley scored 41 to lead the unbeaten Spartans (5-0) to the nonconference victory.

Girls' basketball

Minnehaha Academy 68, St. Louis Park 58: The Redhawks (5-2), ranked No. 8 in Class 2A, outscored the host Orioles (4-2) for their third consecutive victory.

Blaine 61, Armstrong 58: Sophomore forward Kayla Bohr scored 31 points to help the Bengals outlast the host Falcons.

Boys' hockey

Mahtomedi 4, Greenway 0: Charlie Bartholomew had a goal and an assist and Sam Ayd and Kory Pilarski each had two assists to help the host Zephyrs, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, hand the Raiders, ranked No. 4, their first loss of the season. Zephyrs goalie Bailey Huber had 26 saves for the shutout. Greenway was 0-for-7 on the power play.
